When Is the Feria de Sabinillas 2026?

The Feria de Sabinillas 2026 centres on Tuesday 25 August, the feast of San Luis: dianas at 08:00, evening mass and procession, then dancing on Plaza Vicente Espinel. The first published line-up adds a verbena on Saturday 22 August. The official town-hall programme is due in mid August.

The 25th is fixed because it is a saint's day. San Luis is Louis IX of France, the crusader king who died near Tunis on 25 August 1270 and was canonised in 1297, so the feast never moves: a Monday in 2025, a Tuesday in 2026. Everything around it does.

The concert nights drift to the weekend nearest the 25th. In 2025 the official music was one Saturday verbena on the 23rd (Cancionero de Jerez at 22:00, Chanelando at midnight) with the patron's day on the Monday; the Friday had nothing official, only bar gigs and sports tournaments. In 2024 there was the patron's day alone.

The Official 2026 Programme

As of 3 August 2026 there is no official programme yet. What exists is a first line-up, carried by the local guide Manilva Life on 31 July and still awaiting town-hall confirmation:

The printed Feria y Fiestas booklet has been at municipal offices since late June, but the detailed programme has gone online in mid August in recent years, between the 12th and the 21st, usually via the municipal broadcaster RTV Manilva before manilva.es. What Happens on the 25th

Whatever the surrounding nights do, the patron's day has kept the same running order for years:

The dianas are the part nobody warns you about. A full brass charanga at 08:00 is the town's alarm clock on the 25th, and it spares nobody in the centre; locals count being woken by it as taking part. By the time you reach the balcony with a coffee, the band is two streets on.

The plaza acts change every year, so treat any line-up older than this summer as history; the fixtures are the charanga, the choir, the Banda Municipal, and the Hermandad de la Virgen del Carmen y de San Luis, also behind July's Virgen del Carmen sea procession.

Nothing on the plaza starts early. On the 25th the streets are the place to be from about 21:00, when the procession is working through them; the act goes on about 22:30 and the square fills after. On the verbena night, at 21:00 people are still finishing dinner. Children run about at one in the morning, which surprises northern European visitors most.

Two Squares, Two Halves of the Fiesta

The fiesta splits across two squares a short walk apart. The religious half belongs to the church of San Luis on Plaza de San Luis, consecrated in 1993: mass is sung there and the procession forms there. The party half belongs to Plaza Vicente Espinel, behind the taxi rank about 230 metres back from the sand, where the stage and the dancing go.

The procession route is never published. It leaves the church after mass and works the streets between there and the seafront: brief rolling closures, not formal diversions, neighbours on balconies. You stand a couple of metres from the saint, not behind barriers.

From Four-Day Fair to Verbena

If you knew this fiesta years ago, recalibrate. The 2019 edition was the last of the old four-day Feria de San Luis, 22 to 25 August: crowning of the queens, float parade, pregón, day fair, rides at 1 euro, fireworks at half past midnight. The covid editions of 2021 and 2022 kept a multi-day shape, with a fishermen's market on the promenade one year and a Holi party and water fiesta at La Noria the next.

Then, in November 2023, the town hall put the format to a public vote, and San Luis came out of it as a verbena: one big concert night plus the patron's day, the funfair left to the Feria de Manilva up the hill. 2024 was the patron's day alone; 2025 brought the Saturday verbena back; the 2026 advance follows the same shape.

The name deserves a paragraph, because town and saint share it. Sabinillas grew out of a sugar colony: the Duque de Arcos built the coast's first sugar mill here in 1545, a 17th-century mill on this shore was already called the ingenio de San Luis, and from 1869 the Larios family ran the Ingenio de San Luis de Sabinillas, the westernmost sugar-colony factory on the Spanish Mediterranean, until beet sugar undid it. The colony's name became the town's, so the fiesta celebrates the name Sabinillas was founded under; fishing then carried it until La Duquesa marina opened the tourism era in 1977.

The Bars Run Their Own Weekend

The official poster is only half the weekend. In 2025 the seafront bars ran a parallel programme that never appeared on it: Bloody Mary staged live acts all three nights (Gema La Milana and A Contratiempo, Compás Flamenco with a DJ, En su punto), El Tardeo Beach, Descaro Playa and Meollo Beach had their own line-ups, and the pensioners' association held its Sunday rociero. Getting There and Parking

Staying in Sabinillas, you walk. From further out:

Parking is the one strain: the streets around Plaza Vicente Espinel fill on fiesta nights, so park towards the beach end and walk in. Practical Information

Good to know: late August is still high season (occupancy forecast near 89% for August 2026), and the 25th is a working Tuesday in Manilva, not a public holiday, so shops keep normal hours. Check the Costa del Sol weather in August before you pack.

A Fiesta at Your Door

Our apartment stands on Calle Duquesa de Arcos, the street named after the family that founded the town's sugar colony in 1545, and Plaza Vicente Espinel is a few minutes' walk from the door. During San Luis that geography is the whole point: down for the procession, back for bedtime, out again when the act starts, no car at any stage. Check dates for the San Luis week, and if you want the fridge ready for the late nights, add grocery stocking or a welcome pack when you book.

The Rest of the Fiesta Summer

San Luis closes a summer that runs fiesta to fiesta. The 2026 sequence: San Juan bonfires 23 June, the Virgen del Carmen at sea 16 July, Santa Ana 25-26 July, the Full Moon Festival 31 July, the Feria de Manilva 5-9 August. A stay over the last ten days of August takes in the verbena on the 22nd, the patron's day on the 25th and the Noche de Embrujo on the 28th and 29th, with the Fiesta de la Vendimia expected the next weekend.
